Changing a Text Field To a Drop Down

Overview

This article will discuss how to transform a text field into a dropdown list without having to add another field to the form. This is helpful if you wish to change the structure of a string field without deleting the name, label, or creating another field all together. This can help minimize rework time and keep your form organized.

Configuration Steps:

You can also change the style of the dropdown list as well. There is an option to create a regular dropdown, shown above, or a button group. If you select a button group it then gives you the option to create checkboxes, boolean, or a standard look.

Step-by-step
  1. Drag a text field to your designer

  2. Navigate to the control properties and find the "type" dropdown list.

This should look like a wrench Icon

  3. Click the "dropdown" option and click into the list items on the bottom right side.

This should look like rows of data

  4. Once you input the options you wish the dropdown to have click the preview button to preview your new dropdown field.

The changes above are only one way! Once you convert a text field into a dropdown, you can not change it back to a text box unless you "undo" changes.
